Alberta Government Orders Clean-up of Contaminated Site Janu / 0 Comments / in News / by John Nicholson The Government of Alberta recently issued an Enforcement Order to Cherokee Canada Inc. which requires the company to clean-up hazardous waste at a former creosote plant in Edmonton. In Alberta, there is a three phase approach to environmental site assessments. Phase I involves a preliminary inspection carried out by a qualified assessor. This investigation entails a review of background information on the site (including site geology, maps, surveys, etc.), a reconstruction of the history of the site, and a preliminary risk.
At a hazardous waste site, decontamination facilities should be located in the Contamination Reduction Zone (CRZ), i.e., the area between the Exclusion Zone (the contaminated area) and the Support Zone (the clean area) as shown in 3. The level and types of decontamination procedures required depend on several sitespecific factors including. restoration or clean-up of a site. Remediation. The improvement of a contaminated site to prevent, minimize or mitigate damage to human health or the environment. Remediation involves the development and application of a planned approach that removes, destroys, contains or otherwise reduces the availability of contaminants to receptors of concern.
Water pollution is an issue of great concern worldwide, and it can be broadly divided into three main categories, that is, contamination by organic compounds, inorganic compounds (e.g., heavy metals), and microorganisms. In recent years, the number of research studies concerning the use of efficient processes to clean up and minimize the pollution of water bodies has been g: Alberta. Last year, the Nova Scotia government announced it would spend $48 million to clean up two of the most contaminated former mines — Montague Gold Mines and Goldenville on the Eastern Shore.
